Saltwater anglers and fishermen the opportunity to fish for a variety of fish species. We are going to break this section down into two main categories and two sub categories, so you will better understand how you can catch saltwater species of fish in and around Orange Beach,Alabama. Not all species mentioned below are in season on a year round basis. Some are migratory and some move out to deeper waters during certain times of the year. One good thing about charter boat fishing in Alabama is that there is always something biting. Orange Beach is the main port in Alabama where over 90 percent of the fishing activity occurs. We are located 8 miles east of Gulf Shores for those of you who are looking at a map. Alabama has 32 miles of coast line and at any time, the fish are biting somewhere.
Many of you come to our area and don’t have any idea about fishing other than knowing you want to go enjoy it. If you do not do some research and know what to ask, you may end up doing something that you may not enjoy. The purpose of this page is to explain to you what type of fish are available to catch while charter fishing in and around Orange Beach, Alabama.
Inshore Fish, Back Bay Fishing is the first type of fish species we will tell you about. If you get with our guide, you will be able to fish for Redfish, Black Drum, Tripletail, Speckled Trout, White Trout, Croaker, Flounder, Pompano, Ladyfish, Bluefish and seasonal Tarpon. Most inshore fishing charters and trips are 4 to 6 hours in length.
Offshore Fish, Reef Fish is the second type of species. Even though most of these species can be caught year round, some of them are not in season to harvest but certain times of the year. Depending on the length of your trip, you may be able to catch Red Snapper, White Snapper, Lane Snapper, Vermilion Snapper, Black Snapper, Mangrove Snapper, Gag Grouper, Warsaw Grouper, Scamp Grouper, Amberjack, Banded Rudderfish, Almaco Jack, File Fish, Tile Fish, Ribbon Fish and Triggerfish. Most offshore reef fishing trips are done on 6, 8, 10 and 12 hour trips. However, some Orange Beach charter boats that fish overnight or mult-day trips also fish for reef fish.

Nearshore and Migratory Fish Species is the third type of fish located in waters off Orange Beach. Migratory species include Bull Redfish, King Mackerel, Spanish Mackerel,Jack Crevalle and Cobia. These fish are caught close to shore while trolling fishing or sight fishing. Some are not available to catch year round. Near shore fishing trips are usually offered by charter boats and are 4 hours to 6 hours in length.
Offshore – Big Game, Sportfish is the last species of fish that inhabit our coastal waters. Yellowfin Tuna is one of the most common migratory fish that swim offshore. There are some Bluefin Tuna but they are not as plentiful as the Yellowfin. Blackfin Tuna are caught in abundance around offshore, deep water oil rigs. Blue Marlin and White Marlin are also available to fish for offshore.
