Orange Beach, Alabama January 2010 fishing report

January, 2010 rolled in like a lion on the Alabama coastal town of Orange Beach.  The cold temperatures have sparked the Redfish bite close to shore better than anyone can remember in recent years.   The north winds and lower than normal temperatures has made for some great fishing this January.   We have been catching these Redfish pretty good all fall but nothing like we are now.  Clear skies, calm seas, fish biting combined with a heater, make for an unbeatable combination so far.

Deep Sea Fishing Report for Orange Beach

Offshore fishing in Orange Beach has been good so far.  Amberjack Season opened back up an we are seeing some nice ones, closer to shore than they have been.  The offshore fish are hungry.  The Vermilion Snapper and Red Porgies are still biting pretty good.  We are still catching an occasional Red Snapper but are having to vent them and throw them back.  We will find out in February at the Gulf Council meeting in Mobile, Al what the Red Snapper season should be this year.  We don’t know anything yet other than it begins on June 1.  We are not catching any King or Spanish Mackerel at this time.  We are having some luck fighting an occasional shark.

Inshore Fishing Report for Orange Beach

Inshore fishing has been a struggle during the month of December.  There was over 14 inches of rain that has fallen and has caused most of the Speckled Trout to leave the local rivers and head back out to the bays.   The Sheepshead and Redfish bite has been really hot this month and we expect it to only get better.  Right now we are catching some nice sized inshore fish in Orange Beach and over in the Mobile Bay.  We hope that the rivers will continue to fall so those larger trout will move back up into them.   The Flounder bite is not good right now.  All of the Flounder have moved out in the Gulf.  It will be a few months before they start moving back in.   The Black Drum, White Trout and Ground Mullet bite has been good also.

No matter what kind of fishing you want to do in January in Orange Beach, we can get you fishing.   Remember, the weather is the key to everything this time of the year.  North winds and cold temperatures make for great Bull Redfishing.   The Sheepshead bite should be great for some time.
